RSL Gets Capped In BC

[ 0 ] August 11, 2012 |

Real Salt Lake only showed up for the first half and part of the second Saturday, giving Vancouver the game as RSL dropped another match on the road 2-1.

The first half was dominated by even possession on both sides of the ball. Saborio was able to get a ball on frame to beat the keeper but was denied by the frame. Jay Demerit picked up a knock to the head on the play and was taken out shortly after.

Vancouver had better chances on target that tested Rimando. RSL’s defense held the Caps to a fair distance outside the box and shots had to be lobbed in from there.

Both teams were scoreless as they entered the lockers for half.

The Caps got on the board after a failed clearance fell to Sanvezzo. The attempted Johnson clearance banked off Wingert and fell to Sanvezzo who slotted it home past Nick.

Forty minutes of the second half strongly resembled the game versus Colorado, sloppy passing and a congested midfield stopped any meaningful attack at Vancouver’s backup goalkeeper Knighton.

Dane Richards doubled the Caps lead with a rocket to Rimando’s left. Nick reacts but was not able to get to the ball before it shook the back of the net.

RSL would remain blank on the score sheet until the first 90 minutes were over. Paulo, who came in for Espindola, served a ball in from the left side connecting with Borchers’ head in stoppage time, giving Salt Lake a consolation goal.

RSL remains winless at BC Place.
