What is CCL?

CONCACAF Champions League is a tournament of the top clubs from each country in the CONCACAF qualification region for the World Cup. Top clubs from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean participate in this tournament for the right to be the best club in the region. Twenty-four clubs are invited to participate each year.

How Does it Work?

Following an initial round of play-in matches for 16 of the qualifiers (RSL gets through this initial round by virtue of winning the MLS Cup), the tournament moves into the round of 16 with group play. This took place during the fall of 2010.

Each side played two matches (home and away) against every other side in the group, totaling six matches. The top two sides in each group qualified for the knockout phase, which occurred in the spring of 2011.
