A Very Big 3 in 8 Days
Real Salt Lake will start its last three-match week of the season starting this Saturday when the side hosts FC Dallas.
This stretch is a great opportunity for Salt Lake to get back on track after three consecutive losses as the side will be heavy favorites in all three competitions.
Sandwiched between two matches with MLS cellar-dwellers, Salt Lake faces a must-win home tie with Tauro FC in the CONCACAF Champions League. A loss or draw in Tuesday’s match would likely eliminate Salt Lake from CONCACAF.
Finally, Salt Lake will travel to Philadelphia to face the Union, who currently reside at 9th in the Eastern Conference.
While the CONCACAF date should be regarded as a must-win, the other two will serve as great opportunities to pick up easy points going into the home stretch of the season. Salt Lake is still 2nd in the West, though that position continues to become more tenuous with each loss.
The side could still contend for the Supporters’ Shield if things turn around starting on Saturday; however, another loss or two would likely end that opportunity.
How will the side do? Only time will tell. But make no mistake, this week is one of the biggest of the season thus far.
